Christine, Cheryl and Judy have regular meetings about the Surf Coast Riding Club to discuss any HRCAV business and talk about how they can make the club an attractive option for members. They are all involved with setting up the website and Facebook page and it is easy for anyone who would like to contact them through these sites. Members are always welcome to come to the annual AGM.

Surf Coast Riding Club was born in  1999.

Judy Shinners and Jenny Adamson were the founding members of our club as we know it now.

Jenny did the initial heavy lifting. She found out how to get the club joined up with HRCAV. She learnt what was required from their new club and it’s members regarding rules and regulations and she sourced uniforms. Judy said she did alot to be proud of. They started with only a handful of members at first, but their membership grew once word got around the Geelong and Surf Coast area.

Bree Schammer was the driving force behind the club as it grew in popularity, she was extremely efficient and enthusiastic  and would have been just as competent running a large corporation or small country, is how Judy remembers their 2nd SCRC secretary.

Although Surf Coast is ‘by membership only’ club, back in the beginning when there were alot of members, the three women would put together four clinics a year at the local indoor riding arena, Amber Lodge. It was popular with their large membership group, who were still mostly local riders. This was the time when they would have the AGM and a meet and greet with the members.

As the member base started to decline and alot of the members where on the other side of the West Gate Bridge, the annual quarterly clinics died off. And so a new era of SCRC began after discussions on whether or not to keep the club going. So here we are  – Secretary Judy Shinners, Treasurer Cheryl Colson and myself, President Christine Reeve.
